- Why did you decide to use Cite Them Right?
Cite Them Right is a really useful and important tool for our students to help them with their referencing. It's so important for them to be able to understand how to reference their sources correctly so they don't fall foul of things like plagiarism.
We find the Cite Them Right website a really simple tool to use to help them get that information correct.
- What purpose does Cite Them Right have at the institution?
We find Cite Them Right gives really clear examples of how to reference correctly in all the different referencing styles that we use here. By giving very clear examples to students, it helps them understand how to construct their references correctly.
It's particularly helpful in terms of making sure students don't fall foul of plagiarism and ensures they meet all of the criteria required of them when they complete their assignments. It provides a really good solution for that problem for all of our students.
- Why would you recommend using Cite Them Right?
Cite Them Right is just a really clear, straightforward resource for students to use. It gives very clear guidance for all of the different types of resources that they might use in their work and sets out very clearly exactly what it is that they need to consider when they do their referencing and how they set it out.
In that sense, it's a really simple and straightforward resource that everyone should be encouraging their students to use.
- How do you use Cite Them Right within the university?
We really encourage students when we do our library induction, right at the start of the academic year when new students start.
As part of our library induction program, we make sure that all the students are aware of Cite Them Right, how to use it, how it can be helpful for them, and make sure that they know where to go if they need any support with using the resource for their work.
- How do you spread the awareness of Cite Them Right?
We do a lot of promotion work around Cite Them Right and make sure they're aware that the resource is available to them.
We also work closely with academic tutors who support students in the academic writing process, and they make sure as well that they promote these in the sessions that they do with them, covering all aspects of academic writing.
- How does Cite Them Right support your students?
Lots of feedback we get from students is how, particularly when it comes to referencing, students can feel quite anxious about making sure that they reference their resources correctly and put the punctuation in the right place, and all those kinds of little details that they feel are really important.
We find Cite Them Right helps to give them that support and make sure that they know where to go to get the correct information. It makes them feel a lot less anxious about the whole process of referencing correctly and making sure that their work meets all of the requirements that the university has of their written work.
- How would you describe Cite Them Right three words?
I would describe it as clear, comprehensive, and calming.
I think it's very clear in terms of how it sets out how to do the referencing. I feel like it's very comprehensive in terms of the range of resources that it covers, and calming because it really helps reassure students and deals with their anxieties about referencing.
